Cabinet installation is one part of a larger renovation sequence. Knowing what happens at each stage makes responsibilities clearer and helps prevent avoidable delays.
Before installation
Confirm the final layout, cabinet list, appliance specifications, plumbing and electrical locations, finished-floor plan, and who is responsible for demolition, disposal, delivery, and site protection.
Prepare the room: verify decisions, protect finished surfaces, and make the work area accessible before installation day.When cabinets arrive
Inspect cartons and cabinets promptly, compare items with the order, document visible damage, and keep components dry and protected in a climate-appropriate space.
Inspect early: confirm the cabinet count and condition while there is still time to address a delivery issue.During installation
Installers locate studs and high points, establish level reference lines, and adjust for walls and floors that are not perfectly square. Fillers, panels, and moulding create the finished transitions.
Expect adjustment: real rooms are rarely perfectly square, level, or plumb, so careful fitting is part of a professional installation.After cabinet installation
Doors and drawers are adjusted, hardware is installed, and the room is prepared for countertop templating and later trade work. Keep a punch list of anything requiring adjustment or replacement.
