Follow the scraps
Notice where vegetables are trimmed, packages are opened and dishes are scraped. The bin should be reachable from that work area with as few steps and crossed paths as possible.
Near the sink often works well, but not if an open dishwasher and open trash cabinet collide during cleanup.

Test the busiest moment
Open the trash pullout, dishwasher, sink cabinet and nearby drawers on the plan. Add a person standing at the sink and another at the preparation surface.
An island location may support prep beautifully, while a perimeter location may be easier for guests to find. The household's routine should decide.

Size the habit, not the photograph
A double-bin unit can separate recycling, but container capacity varies with cabinet width and hardware. Confirm that the chosen bins match pickup habits and how often the household wants to empty them.
Keep replacement liners and related cleaning supplies close without interfering with the pullout mechanism.
